The Overtoom. It's a beautiful street, about 2 km long. It runs from the city heart, the Leidseplein, to the Amstelveenseweg. It's history starts in the 14th century, when it was a small path connecting Sloten and the center of Amsterdam. Later famous for it's inn's, beautiful mansions,  recreation grounds, gardens, cotton industry and even fortresses.

Now it's a busy street, with a tramway in the middle.

Most houses that we see now are dating back fro the second half of the 19th century. But also modern buildings mingle between. What makes the Overtoom so special nowadays is the mix of many styles of buildings, the broad street and it's large green trees bordering it.

Many owners try to renovate the often neglected buildings, to restore them as much as possible into their old glory.
